LYS Day & Early April News
First, National Local Yarn Shop Day is coming up at the end of the month! Just 4 weeks from today: Saturday April 29. That day the shop will be open all day, from 9-5. We'll have door prizes - you must wear(or bring) something you made with yarn from Coastal Purl to be eligible. For my out of town folks, just send me a picture of you with an item you've made from yarn from Coastal Purl and I'll make sure you are entered as well! We'll be making felted soap bars; for $6 you'll get a bar of Coastal Purl Lavender Cedarwood scented soap which you'll felt roving onto (included) to take with you. We'll also have official LYS pins for the first 40 folks with purchases that day (includes my online folks!) We will likely add aditional activites - stay tuned!
We love spring and summer sweaters - Berroco just released a couple that are really cute from familiar designers with very nicely written patterns. The first is Gioia, a short sleeved sweater with a cute, very easy colorwork yoke trim. Body is knit with Modern Cotton; yoke uses Summer Sesame. I've had 4 folks select this pattern since it was released, just this week. There are fresh new colors of Modern Cotton and those will be arriving in the shop Wednesday or Thursday this coming week! You will love these combos!! Modern Cotton, for those of you who have not yet knit with it, is a cotton rayon blend with a smooth hand and elegant drape. It makes an incredibly comfortable garment. It's worsted so it's quick!

The second is Azzurra, and for those of you who knitted the Etta sweater, this is the same pattern but made into a sweet summer cardigan. It's shown in Summer Sesame, but could also be knitted in Remix Light (dk) or another dk solid yarn which might make the eyelet pattern in the yoke stand out a little more. The 3/4 sleeve and cropped effect are fun for summer.

I also love Alison Green's new sweater, Madeleine, with a little bit of broomstick lace in the yoke. It's shown in Berroco Spree, a wool and cotton blend that is soft and lofty with gorgeous swirls of soft colors and available in the shop.

For those, like me, who find air conditioning to be too chilly, there are a couple of wonderful long sleeved sweaters that are still seasonally light. Peggy, who so kindly fills in for me at the shop and is one of our resident crochet tutors knitted Heidi Kirrmaier's Sunshine Coast in Silky Wool; note the pretty details on the neck and down the side seams:

I also really like Tanis Lavallee's Terranova with the artfully placed cables along the raglan and hem - her photos are copyrighted, but you can get a good look on Ravelry - be sure to check it out!
All patterns are available on Ravelry and you can either purchase directly from Ravelry or through my shop - the cost to you is the same, but if you order it through me the shop gets a little credit.
Happy creating! Come see the new seasonal yarn selection, and check out the new line of special soap with a delightful Lily of the Valley fragrance crafted just for Coastal Purl of natural ingredients and made locally. Candles with the same lovely scent will arrive mid-month; watch for gift-ready bundles with soap and a candle for Mother's Day, or if Mom's a knitter we can also add a skein of soft cotton yarn for face cloths. Bundles will come in a gifting-ready organza bag with ribbon - let me know if you'd like me to ship directly to someone special with a card - happy to personalize!! Just call or send me an email to coastalpurl@gmail.com.
Kindly,
Katherine
